THE NEXT BIG THING

Thank you, Marva, for throwing THE NEXT BIG THING over to me this week. And for passing these tough questions, too. Lol.

Let’s take them down the line.

The Ten Interview Questions
What is the working title of your book?

A Heap of Trouble
Where did the idea come from for the book?

I’ve always wanted to write a western romance. One that would include some ‘cowboy’ action—hence the rustlers—a bit of humor—Beggar the ringtail monkey—a mystery—who stole the cattle—and a sheriff that is wooing a purty gal—but a stubborn one.
What genre does your book fall under?

Western/romance/action/mystery/humor

How’s that for a bunch of genres?
Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

Oh my, I’m not that familiar with actors names. It’s an age thing,  maybe? Lol.
How about the characters the actors play on TV?
Oh, the guy that plays Castle, the writer, on TV would make a great Sheriff Cole Walker.
Loved him in Serenity too.
For Mattie Wells, I can see Penny from the Big Bang Theory. She has the looks but her hair would have to be a bit more on the strawberry side, or a little darker blonde.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Sheriff Cole chases after Mattie who steals his heart, Beggar a monkey who steals the townspeople's jewelry and a gang that steals cattle.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

A Heap of Trouble is published by MuseItUp press.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
About four months, but don’t ask me about the editing. That seemed to take forever, probably almost a year.
What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
I guess, and I don’t know if this was a book, but remember the old Maverick series on TV. I would compare it more to that than anything.
Who or What inspired you to write this book?
I watched B.J. and the Bear again, and I wondered how it would be to go back farther in time, to the old west, with an impish ringtail monkey for a comic sidekick.

What else about your book might pique the reader's interest?
The mystery of who is the rustling boss, the stubbornness of Mattie who refuses to get married—she has a dark secret—the antics of Beggar. Three different conflicts going on and it’s all on Cole to handle this Heap of Trouble.

  5. Hi Lorrie! And hi to you Beggar! *waves*

The cover is awesome, the CA did a great job. I'm surprised Beggar didn't demand room on it for himself lol

I love this book, can't say enough nice things about it - it's funny, romantic, and mysterious. Cole Walker is great, if sometimes obtuse - and Beggar steals everything, including your heart!

    Way to go!

I also love the cover that Muse created for Heap of Trouble, but not as much as I loved the book.
Oo, Castle as Cole. Great choice.

  9. Oh Vamp Queen, I accidently erased your comment. I'm so sorry, I was trying to erase just my comment. I'm banging my head against the wall. *bang, bang, bang.* And I do want that website address. Dang it!
Forgive me for being such a dummy yet with the blog.

  11. Hey, Lorrie, Greetings from Latvia. Special greetings since I only have six more days here. Heap of Trouble is one of my favorites of yours---and I don't even particularly like westerns.

It's that little Beggar. He can win anyone's heart. What a show-stealer. Great job.

Have to agree with Julie. If Beggar can steal your heart, he deserves at least a tiny place on the cover. But you can't judge all books by their covers. This one is better.

  12. You're with my people. lol. Hi back to you in Latvia. I'm so happy you liked the book. I think it's a fun, interesting book. But of course I would. I wrote it. lol.
That little ringtail, Beggar, is quite an imp.

  13. An intriguing plot--love the monkey--a great
idea. The sheriff sounds like quite a guy.
I'm not familiar with Castle, so I'll
just imagine what he'd look like.
    Cheers, Kelly

  15. Nathan Fillian...yes, nice choice for Cole. :) But why not Greg Evigan since BJ and the Bear inspired you to write about Beggar?

Love the cover and the humor in this book. I think Julie Lynn Hayes said it best, "Beggar steals everything, including your heart!"

    Congrats on another great read!

  16. Thanks Darla. I do like Greg Evigan, but lately he looks a little old to me to play the part of Cole. I dunno?

  19. I loved Heap of Trouble...I told my girlfriend (friends since third grade ) about it. She and I used to ride her horse, Gypsy, around her farm and fall off when we started laughing so much. She's still into horses. A great story for kids and adults. Doesn't everyone love horses?
